Depending on the species, some beetle larvae can eat their way through clothing. Some species will bore into wood, and others prefer stored foods like flour or grain.
Wood-destroying beetles: The damage looks like small, shallow holes drilled by a power tool.
Fabric-destroying beetles generally eat fabric when they are in the larval stage. The damage they cause looks like worms have chewed through the fabric. Carpet-destroying beetles create similar damage to carpet material.
Food-eating beetles eat stored grain and other foods, either during the larval stage or during the adult stage. By sifting through flour or stored grains, evidence of these beetles is easy to find. You’ll either discover worm-like larvae or fully-grown adults.
Longhorned beetles and stag beetles are a couple of types that will bite, though bites are rare and don’t cause any damage.
If they happen to nip at you, most beetles do not cause any real harm.
However, blister beetles — true to their name — can cause painful blisters by secreting nasty chemicals from their abdomen.
There are many kinds of beetles that are considered pests:
Powder post beetles chew their way through wood.
Weevils eat grain and other stored foods.
Dermestid beetles are similar to carpet beetles, which cause damage to carpets.
As a nuisance pest, Asian Lady beetles congregate in huge numbers and invade homes.
Beetles are the most prolific species in the world. There are about 350,000 known and named species of beetles. There are more known species of beetles than mammal and plant species combined.
We have never needed pest control in the past and we randomly called Fox. We couldn't be happier with Phil the technician that came to service our home. Phil was extremely knowledgeable, thorough and patient. He answered all of our questions and put us at ease. If all of Fox's technicians are like Phil then you'll be in good hands.
